Evacuation a casualty from a car after a road accident

Equipment for the practical skill:

• simulator;
• vehicle first aid kit;
• warning triangle;
• set of cervical collars.

Clinical situation:

There was a car accident in front of your eyes. The driver is in the car with no signs of activity. There are signs of damage to the tank and leaking gasoline. Evacuate the injured person from the crashed vehicle.

The procedure for performing a practical skill

• Check the scene.
• Call to bystanders for help.
• Send someone or do it yourself to:
  • place a warning triangle from the vehicle a distance at least 15 meters  in populated areas and at least 40 meters in outside populated areas;
  • call to ambulance and police;
  • bring a car first aid kit and set of cervical collar;
  • restrict a crowd.
• Open the driver's side door of the car

• Switch off the ignition of the car engine.

• Apply the emergency brake and/or place blocks in front of the wheels. 
• When assisting a passenger, open the car door from the victim's side.
• Perform a primary examination of the victim.

• Perform immobilization of a neck with a cervical collar.

• Evacuate the person from the crashed car:
  • tilt the victim's torso forward slightly;

• • place your hand behind the victim's back, pass it through the victim's axillary region and bring it to the front of the victim's torso;

• • take the victim's left hand with the same hand at the level of the lower third of the forearm, giving it a horizontal position with the help of your other hand;

• • place your other hand between the victim's torso and the arm closest to you;

• • take the victim's hand with this hand at the level of the upper third of the forearm, pressing it against the victim's stomach.

• Place the victim's head and back firmly on yourself, as if on a shield, and perform traction  the victim from the car.

• Place the victim gently on the ground.
