Putting a vapor tube
Indications: 1) flatulence; 2) preparation for endoscopic examinations of the gastrointestinal tract.
Contraindications: 1) fissures in the anus area; 2) acute inflammatory or ulcerative processes in the colon or anus area; 3) malignant neoplasms of the rectum; 4) bleeding hemorrhoids; 5) prolapse of the rectum; 6) stomach or intestinal bleeding.
Workplace equipment: 1) manipulation table; 2) sterile vapour tube; 3) Vaseline oil; 4) container with a small amount of water; 5) oilcloth; 6) diaper (2 pcs); 7) Janet syringe to wash the vapour tube; 8) personal protective equipment; 9) containers with disinfectant solutions; 10) bag for dirty laundry.
The preparatory stage of the manipulation.
- The nurse should change her gown and wear an apron before the manipulation. Hygienically disinfect hands and wear gloves.
- Prepare the manipulation table
- Establish a trusting relationship with the patient.
- Clarify the patient's understanding of the purpose and course of the procedure, and get his consent.
- Make sure there are no contraindications to this procedure.
- Put a Kleenex or a diaper on the patient's bed.
- Put the patient on the left side, with the legs bent and brought to the abdomen (if such a position is impossible, then put him on his back)
- Lubricate the rounded end of the vaseline tube with Vaseline oil.
The main step in performing the manipulation.
- With 2 fingers of the left hand spread the buttocks, with the right hand rotate the vapor tube to a distance of 20 - 30 cm.
- Dip the outer end of the tube into a container of water to make sure the gases are escaping.
- Wrap the outer end of the tube in a diaper.
- After one hour, remove the tube and immerse it in a container with disinfectant solution.
- Dry the skin around the anus with a napkin, in case of irritation treat with vaseline oil.
The final stage of the manipulation.
- Rinse the vapor tube with a Jeanet syringe in a container with disinfectant solution. Soak the vapor tube and syringe in a second container of disinfectant solution for a period of time according to the instructions for use of this disinfectant (Desomix, etc.)
- Put the diapers in a dirty laundry bag.
- Wipe the manipulation table, apron, and oilcloth with a rag soaked in disinfectant.
- Remove the gloves and immerse them in the disinfectant solution for a period of time according to the instructions for use of this disinfectant. Wash your hands with soap and water and dry them with a towel.
- Make a record in the appointment sheet about the performance of the procedure and the achievement of the effect.
Note:
1 Do not hold the tube for more than one hour, as mucous membrane sores can form. If necessary, the procedure can be repeated after 2-3 hours, but no more than 2-3 times a day.
2. Modern disinfectants have a pronounced washing power (Desomix, etc.), which allows you to remove the lipid layer from the tips, and vapor tubes during disinfection.
