Purpose: Preparation for patient transportation

(two people, the patient can help)

Equipment:

  • wheelchair,
  • skin antiseptic
  • gloves
  • functional bed

Preparation for the procedure:

  1. Establish a trusting relationship, explain the procedure to the patient, make sure he or she understands it, and get consent to perform.
  2. Assess the patient's condition and surroundings. Attach bed brakes. Place the wheelchair at the patient's feet. If possible, lower the bed to the level of the chair

The sequence of execution:

  1. One sister stands behind the wheelchair and leans it forward so that the footrest touches the floor.
  2. The second nurse (assistant) stands in front of the patient, sitting on the bed with his legs down, legs spread 30 cm wide, bent at the knees.
  3. Ask the patient to grasp the nurse's waist, hold him by the shoulders.
  4. Pull the patient to the edge of the bed so that his feet (in non-slip shoes) touch the floor
  5. Place one leg between the patient's knees, the other in the direction of travel.
  6. Hold the patient in an "embrace" position, lift the patient smoothly without jerking or turning him/her. Do not squeeze the patient under the arms!
  7.  Warn him that on the count of three you will help him stand up. While counting, sway slightly with him. On the count of three, place the patient, turning with him until his back is against the wheelchair. Ask the patient to warn you when he touches the edge of the gurney.
  8.  Lower the patient into the wheelchair; bend your knees to hold the patient's knees; keep the back straight. The patient can help by placing his or her hands on the armrests of the wheelchair.
  9.  Let the patient go, making sure he is securely seated in the chair.
  10.  Place a patient comfortably in the chair.
  11.  If it is necessary to transport the patient - remove the brake.

Completion of the procedure:

  1.  Make sure the patient is sitting comfortably
  2.  Wash and dry your hands

Transporting a patient from a wheelchair to a bed:

Purpose: to relocate an unresponsive patient

(Performs two or more people the patient can sit, but does not move independently)

Equipment:

  • gurney or chair, skin antiseptic, gloves, functional bed

Preparation for the procedure:

  1. Explain the procedure to the patient, make sure he/she understands it and get consent to do it.
  2. Assess the patient's condition and surroundings. Fasten the bed brakes.
  3. Put a chair next to the bed.

The sequence of execution:

  1. Help the patient sit closer to the edge of the bed, with his legs overhung.
  2. Stand on either side of the patient facing him. Both nurses put their hand under his hips and hold each other with a "wrist grip" (see Fig. 2.10), supporting his hips.
  3. Both nurses put their shoulders under the patient's shoulders and he puts his hands on the nurses' backs. The free arm is bent at the elbow, leaning on the bed with it. Legs apart, knees bent.
  4. One of the nurses gives the command. On the count of three, both straighten their knees and elbows, stand up, and lift the patient. Support the patient's back with your free hand while you carry him to the chair (wheelchair).
  5. Each of the nurses places a supporting hand on the armrest or seat of the chair and lowers the patient into the chair by bending the knees and elbow. Make sure that you lower the patient onto the chair at the same time. The chair should not tilt backwards: one of the nurses holds the back of the chair.

Completion of the procedure:

  1. Make sure the patient is sitting comfortably
  2. Wash and dry your hands
