Collecting a single-voided urine specimen

Indications:

Emergency diagnosis of glucosuria  

Equipments:

• glucotest (the tube with indicator test - strips)
• clean urine container
• container “Disinfection of dressing, PPE.”

The preparatory stage:

• Explain the algorithm and purpose of the manipulation to the patient
• offer to collect urine in a clean container
• perform hygienic hands antisepsis. Put on gloves.
• remove the test strip from the tube

Main stage:

• Dip the glucose test strip into the urine for 2-3 seconds so that the yellow indicator strip is completely wetted by the liquid
• Take it out carefully
• Remove the urine residue with a gentle tap on the edge of the container
• Lay the strip on a flat, dry surface
• Wait 45-90 seconds (not more than 2 minutes)
• After two minutes, compare the coloration of the test strip indicator (test zone) with the color scale on the package

• interpret the test results according to the instructions for use of the test systems

Final stage:

• place the used strip in a container” Disinfecting dressings. PPE.”
• remove gloves
• place in the container “Disinfection of dressings. PPE.” 
• wash your hands
