First aid for a motion sickness

Clinical situation:

On the bus you are traveling on, a person asked for help. He complains of nausea, dizziness, headache, cold sweat. Human skin is pale. Provide first aid.

Equipment for the practical skill:

• simulated patient;
• first aid kit.
  

The procedure for performing a practical skill

• Keep calm and reassure the casualty.
• Stop travelling if possible, to allow the person time to recover and take corrective action.
• If it is not possible to stop travelling, help the casualty to sit in a chair with a high backrest.
• Tell the person to face forward and to look straight ahead at a fixed the gaze on a central point on the horizon.
• If possible, provide fresh air and encourage the person to take slow and regular breaths.
• If previous actions are ineffective, give the person metoclopramide 10 mg in tablet orally.
• Try to distract the person.
